Anime Music Vol. 3 – The Good, the Bad, and the Weird

The Weird:

Ah well, it’s Christmas time.  Naturally that means carols abound everywhere!  Except this isn’t a Christmas Carol.

You can still add it to your Christmas music playlist since it has the word Christmas at least once in the song – so it’s as much about Christmas as “Same Old Lang Syne” by Dan Fogelberg is.

“Kissing the Christmas Killer” by Yoko Kanno, sung by Maaya Sakamoto

This song has all of Yoko Kanno’s typical atmospheric moodiness – light and yet somehow full of the ethereal stuff that makes you question tangible realities.

The song is on 23-ji no Ongaku (Music of the 23rd Hour), Kanno’s 2nd album, released in 2002.  The album is the soundtrack for the TV adaptation of Sidney Sheldon’s The Other Side of Midnight titled真夜中は別の顔 (Mayonaka wa Betsu no Kao).

My favorite lyric?

 “Toys if you’ve been good,

Knives if you have not”

Now that’s a Santa who will inspire your kids to behave!

Do you know any songs played at Christmas that have nothing to do with Christmas?  Leave a note below!  I need to add more to my playlist : D
